Welcome to CARES
Clinic for Autism, Research, Evaluation, and Support
CARES is housed within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and serves the community and university by (1) providing high-quality clinical services for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families; (2) educating and preparing competence and compassionate pre-service practitioners; and (3) advancing research in the fields of special education and behavior analysis to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, their families, and communities.
Clinical Services
The Clinic for Autism, Research, Evaluation, and Support (CARES) provides high-quality, evidence-based services for individuals with disabilities and their families. Our clinical work is grounded in best practices in special education and school psychology, with a focus on promoting independence, inclusion, and meaningful participation across home, school, and community settings.
Training & Education
CARES is housed within the Special Education and School Psychology graduate programs at Texas State University. Through supervised clinical experiences, we prepare future educators and specialists to apply current, research-supported practices with integrity and compassion. Our training emphasizes ethical practice, collaboration, and responsiveness to diverse learners and families.
Research & Leadership
Faculty and graduate students at CARES engage in practitioner inquiry and research aimed at improving outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Our work informs evidence-based practice, contributes to the field of special education, and supports leadership in policy, advocacy, and inclusive educational practices. We are committed to advancing high-quality professional standards and expanding access to effective supports.
